The UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape welcomes Camille Lemaître, who joins the Chair as a PhD student in environmental planning at Université de Montréal. Her work focuses on the sustainable development of continental hydrographic basins.
Camille graduated in 2025 with an MSc in Public Health, specializing in environment, from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Over the course of her academic and professional journey, she focused on the transformation of post-industrial landscapes in Belgium and Scotland, and on preventing environmental damage and health risks through urban planning.
Her doctoral research focuses on adaptive planning for river territories facing multiple climate-related events. She aims to explore how the systemic impacts of these events can be prevented early on, using robust decision-support frameworks. Her work will contribute to Rivers in Commons (Fleuves en communs), an initiative launched by the UNESCO Chair in Urban Landscape.
“I came to Montreal to pursue a PhD in environmental planning, mainly to broaden my horizons beyond the approaches commonly used in Europe, to which we can sometimes be too attached,” says Camille.
We wish her a warm welcome and look forward to following her work at the Chair.
